MUD records

MUD records is a small, independent label from Australia. We have been around for a long time and began as way to promote the music of Paul Rayfield, Rob Cain and Larry Nicholson. The world of MUD is expanding as time moves on. Not only is there music, but also recording, written word and merchandise.

MUD began many years ago in the NSW town of Newcastle. Rob and Paul met in the late 70s via mutual friend, guitarist Tony Vallon. They would get together at nighttime in Rob's flat and record. They were the days of 4 track reel-to-reel. From this, Paul and Rob began a songwriting partnership that lasted until about 2005 when Rob met the girl of his dreams and moved to Thailand.

The MUD records logo was originally designed by Cormac O'Riordan of Cormac Graffix. Paul has tinkered with it over the years, adding colour. He has now lost the original file.

Larry is a friend of Rob's from California who spent a lot of his youth surfing in Australia. Creating stories, documenting and philosophizing about our human existence is Larry's strength. Listen to his albums and you will be drawn into the images he paints with words.

Paul gave music away for several years while he had a family, but, since 2011, has reignited the passion. He is the driving force behind re-establishing the presence of MUD records. Since 2011, Paul has released 2 new albums. Prior to this, he re-released all of the previous MUD albums and packaged together unreleased material. All of these recordings are available at music.mudrecords.com.

PAUL NOW RUNS MUD RECORDS ALONE, MAINTAINING THIS SITE AND BLOG AND RECORDING NEW MATERIAL UNDER VARIOUS PSEUDONYMS.
